Samsung Galaxy S24 Rumors: Titanium Design, More AI, and Other Leaks

Samsung Galaxy S24

With a slew of new AI-powered features, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 and S24 Ultra are anticipated to release in the upcoming weeks. Samsung recently revealed that the date of its upcoming Unpacked event is January 17. This implies that new devices will probably be released not too long after.

Samsung will undoubtedly encounter fierce competition, chiefly from the iPhone 15 and iPhone Pro 15, which boast a plethora of enhancements, including sophisticated titanium bodies for the Pro models and new camera systems. Then there are Google’s Pixel 8 and 8 Pro devices, which, among other new features, include AI photo editing capabilities.

However, Samsung always produces extremely powerful phones, so we’re very interested to see what the massive mobile manufacturer will produce. In an attempt to ascertain the features, release date, and potential price range of Samsung’s upcoming superphones, we have combed through the rumors.

You should proceed with caution when believing any rumors. We won’t stop receiving them, so we’ll update this post as soon as we learn more.

When will the Samsung Galaxy S24 launch?

Samsung’s Unpacked event, which takes place in San Jose, California, on January 17, is anticipated to be centered around the Galaxy S24 series. Even though a January launch is a little earlier than Samsung’s usual February schedule, this isn’t shocking because Korean news sources SBS Biz and The Elec have already reported that date of announcement.

How much will the Galaxy S24 cost?

Although pricing is unknown, we don’t anticipate any major changes to the S23 lineup. To give you an idea, the base S23 model costs $800, the Plus model costs $1,000, and the Ultra model costs $1,200. A strategy Samsung has employed for the majority of its phone generations, the Galaxy S lineup offers a variety of models to cater to consumers with varying budgets.

Prices for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 were unchanged from the previous year, so it doesn’t seem like Samsung is trying to change up its approach to pricing.

What will be the biggest new feature in the Galaxy S24 series?

Uncertainty will persist until Samsung unveils the Galaxy S24 lineup. However, given that the business has already begun to tease new AI technologies, we can probably anticipate that the Galaxy S24 will place a lot of emphasis on new AI-powered features.

Samsung just unveiled Galaxy AI, a phone that it refers to as a “AI experience” that will launch in early 2024. Although the company hasn’t disclosed many details about Galaxy AI, it has offered one example: phone call translation. According to a press release from the company, Galaxy AI will enable real-time language translation of text and audio from the native phone app.

Additionally, AI is probably going to be a major factor in the Galaxy S24’s camera, particularly with the S24 Ultra. According to a well-known leaker on X (formerly Twitter), going by the handle Ice Universe, the 200-megapixel camera mode will use artificial intelligence (AI) to recognize up to a dozen different types of objects and adjust the shot accordingly. Given that the Ultra model is the only phone in Samsung’s current lineup with a 200-megapixel sensor, this feature is probably unique to that phone.

In November, Samsung also unveiled Gauss, a generative AI model that is divided into three components: Gauss Language, Gauss Code, and Gauss Image. The language component was made for tasks like translating and summarizing documents, and the Gauss Image component is used to create and modify images.

It’s difficult to imagine Galaxy AI and Gauss not having a significant role in the Galaxy S24 family in light of these announcements.

Will there be multiple Galaxy S24 versions?

Very likely in the affirmative. As previously stated, Samsung has long employed the multiple model strategy. According to all current rumors, the company plans to release at least two S24 models: an Ultra version and a base model. Although some industry analysts disagree, it has been suggested that the Plus model might be dropped in order to further differentiate the Ultra and base models.

What about the Galaxy S24 series design and display?

Samsung intends to maintain a nearly identical design for the base S24 and S24 Plus models. It is anticipated that both phones will continue to use floating camera lenses as opposed to the solid camera unit found on the S22 and S22 Plus models.

There might be some more noticeable changes made to the S24 Ultra, such as fewer visible camera lenses on the back. There will be fewer lenses in the camera cluster of the S24 Ultra if Tech_Reve’s prediction comes to pass regarding the loss of the 3x camera lens. Renowned leaker Evan Blass has leaked alleged renderings and specifications for the Galaxy S24 lineup. The S24 Ultra’s camera configuration appears nearly identical to that of the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

It’s unclear whether the titanium frame of the Ultra model will be observable from the outside, despite other rumors—like this one from The Elec—that it will. According to the report, Samsung will begin using titanium on the Ultra and may later think about using it on other models as well. This would significantly follow Apple’s September release of the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, which introduced titanium finishes to the iPhone lineup.

Additionally, if the S24 Ultra has a flat screen instead of a slightly curved one, there may be leaks from accounts using the aliases David Martin and SuperRoader.

Based on most rumors, the display sizes are expected to stay mostly unchanged from the previous year. This means that the Galaxy S24 base model will come in three sizes: 6.1 inches, 6.6 inches, and 6.8 inches. However, according to Blass’ leak, the screens on the S24 and S24 Plus will be somewhat bigger, measuring 6.2 and 6.7 inches, respectively.

Galaxy S24 series cameras?

Galaxy S24 series cameras?

The Galaxy S24 lineup appears to have hardware similar to that of the Galaxy S23 family, albeit with slightly different zoom quality, based on the rumors and leaks that have surfaced thus far.

While more recent rumors indicate the camera specs will essentially stay the same, some earlier reports claimed we’ll see a much larger main camera sensor. The talk of a larger primary camera sensor is perhaps less exciting given that the source of the latter rumors—known leaker Ice Universe—has a great track record.

That’s unfortunate because, despite ongoing fierce competition from Apple and Google, the S23 Ultra’s cameras haven’t really changed all that much over the past few generations. Increasing the size of the camera sensor could have a big impact on the quality of the images. However, Ice Universe has also hinted that the S24 Ultra’s 3x zoom lens could see an increase in resolution to 50 megapixels.

According to more recent rumors from Ice Universe, Samsung might even reduce the 10x optical zoom from the Ultra to 5x instead. Although it may appear like a downgrade, 5x zooms are typically far more useful in real-world situations, with 10x lenses being reserved for exceptional situations when taking pictures of far-off objects. The 5x zooms on the Pixel 7 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max would be more evenly matched by a superior 5x zoom. A more current leak from Ice Universe indicates that the phones’ night mode will also be improved.

According to Blass’s spec sheet—who has a strong track record of reporting on phone leaks—the S24 Ultra will sport a 200-megapixel primary camera similar to the S23 Ultra, but it will also come with a 5x telephoto option in addition to the current 2x, 3x, and 10x options as well as a 100x “space zoom.” According to the purportedly leaked spec sheet, the S24 and S24 Plus would feature a 50-megapixel sensor similar to their predecessors, along with 2x and 3x telephoto options.

How about the Galaxy S24 series’ specs?

Galaxy S24 series' specs

Samsung might switch back to using its own Exynos chips in some regions, according to a report from Pocket-lint, even though it’s almost a given that some S24 models will use the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. In fact, it appears from Blass’ leak that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will power the S24 lineup.

In previous generations, such as the S22 line, Samsung chose to use its own Exynos processors in some regions (such as the UK) and Qualcomm chips in others (such as the US). It was noteworthy that the S23 line used Qualcomm silicon throughout all regions, with no trace of Exynos, even though the logic behind this was not always evident.

According to the spec sheet from Blass, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is anticipated to have 12GB of RAM, similar to the S23 Ultra, while the S24 Plus will supposedly receive an upgrade from 8GB to 12GB. Similar to the S23, the base Galaxy S24 is rumored to have 8GB of RAM. Previous information leaked by X user Tarun Vats suggested that the RAM for the standard S24 and S24 Plus would increase to 12GB, while the Ultra would get 16GB.

More intriguing, though, might be the potential for the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus to have longer battery lives. The Galaxy S24 will have a 4,000 mAh battery, while the S24 Plus will have a 4,900 mAh battery, if the specifications that were leaked by Blass are accurate. This is in contrast to the 3,900 mAh battery of the Galaxy S23 and the 4,700 mAh battery of the S23 Plus. It is rumored that the Galaxy S24 Ultra and S23 Ultra share the same 5,000 mAh battery.

Faster charging

Similar to its predecessors, the Galaxy S23 lineup offers 25 watts of charging for the standard model and 45 watts for the Plus and Ultra models.

This is not as fast as some rival phones. For instance, the Lenovo Think Phone has 68-watt charging, which can charge it from empty to 92% in 30 minutes. During CNET’s testing, the Motorola Edge Plus, which also has 68-watt charging, recharged its battery from 3% to 80% in 30 minutes. The Galaxy S23 Plus 45-watt charging, which only achieved 11% to 72% in the same amount of time, was surpassed by both of those.

Although it wouldn’t be a deal breaker, faster charging is a useful addition that would draw people who frequently have a short window of time to charge their devices to the S24.
